Mrs. Martha Spear, 69, Passed Away Monday

Mrs. Martha Spear, age 69 years, died Monday in the University hospital in Ann Arbor, following an operation she underwent three weeks ago. Mrs. Spear had been in failing health the last two years.

She was born in Medina township and for the past 15 years, with her family, resided in Morenci.

She leaves her husband, E.E. Spear, three sons, Paul and Kenneth Spear of New Mexico; Maurice Spear of near Morenci; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Rogers of Ypsilanti and Mrs. Ray Lyons of Adrian.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Ackland funeral home and conducted by the Rev. H.A. Essex, pastor of the Morenci Baptist church.

Interment was made in Oak Grove cemetery.

House In Morenci Damaged By A Fire

Loss to Edward Spear Home Estimated at $1,000

MORENCI, May 12—Damage estimated at $1,000 was done by fire about 1:30 o’clock this afternoon to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Spear on East Main Street. When discovered the fire was burning briskly in the attic. The fire department was called and when chemicals failed to stop the fire streams of water were turned on. The entire roof of the house was burned off and there was considerable damage from water used.

Mr. and Mrs. Spear have both been ill. They have been taken to the home of a daughter Mrs. Ray Lyons of Morenci.

The loss is covered by insurance.

Estelle [sic] E. Spear

MORENCI, May 9—The funeral of Estelle [sic] E. Spear who died Tuesday in his home here was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Stockwell Funeral Home with the Rev. N.D. Johnson officiating. The bearers were Ray Lyons, Maurice Spear, Kenneth Spear, Paul Spear, Richard Rogers and Harry Reppert. The burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.

Relatives and friends from Claunch, N.M., Milan, Adrian, Howell, Ann Arbor, Tecumseh, Ypsilanti and Fayette attended the services.

Mrs. Estell Spear

MORENCI, Nov. 5.—Mrs. Bella Scott Spear, 53 years old, wife of Estell Spear, died at 10:45 o’clock last night in her home on East Main Street. Mrs. Spear was born March 14, 1887, in Montpelier and lived there until three years ago. She was a member of the Methodist church in Montpelier.

Besides her husband she is survived by three step-sons Paul and Maurice Spear of Milan and Kenneth Spear of Morenci, two stepdaughters Mrs. Dorothy Rogers of Ypsilanti and Mrs. Margaret Lyons of Adrian and ten grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Friends Funeral Home in Montpelier and the burial will be in the Montpelier cemetery.

ONTARIO, March 6—Mrs. E.E. Spear, aged 69 years, died at 1:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon in the University Hospital where she had been a patient the last five weeks. Mrs. Spear had been in failing health for two years. She was born in Medina township where she had spent all her life except 15 years. Mrs. Spear was a member of the Morenci Baptist church.

She is survived by her husband, E.E. Spear; three sons, Paul and Kenneth Spear of New Mexico and Maurice Spear at home; two daughters, Mrs. Ray Lyons of Adrian and Mrs. Richard Rogers of Ypsilanti and 12 grandchildren.

Obituary

Mrs. Martha B. Spear

Martha Baldwin Spear, daughter of Nelson and Sarah Baldwin, was born in Medina township October 26, 1864. After two years of failing health she departed this life March 5, 1934, at the University Hospital at Ann Arbor, where she had been a patient for the last five weeks. She was aged 69 years. She received her early educational training in the public schools of Medina township and Morenci village. For a number of years she was a very successful teacher in the schools of Medina and Seneca townships. She was married to Estell E. Spear December 31, 1885. To this union six children were born. Rorick, who died in early childhood; Paul and Kenneth of New Mexico; Maurice of Medina township; Dorothy (Mrs. Richard Rogers of Ypsilanti) and Margaret (Mrs. Roy [sic] Lyons of Adrian. Mr. and Mrs. Spear made their home on the farm in Medina township until 1918, when they moved to Morenci.
