Mrs. Mary E. Casterlin, wife of the late Asa Casterlin, will be buried at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon from the home of her son, Frank, 120 Park place, Dorranceton. Services will be conducted there by Rev. G.B. Stone, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church at Noxen and Rev. Mr. Hick[unclear] of the Methodist church of Dorranceton. Interment will be in Forty Fort cemetery.

The late Walter S. Casterlin, was born at Orange, Luzerne County and State of Pennsylvania, forty-eight years ago, the son of Asa and Mary Casterlin. He was reared on the farm, the old homestead at Orange, and after attending the country schools at home entered Mansfield State Normal school, where he was a leader and from which institution he graduated with honor, and was awarded a teacher’s certificate.
After coming home he was elected to a school in Nanticoke, where he taught with great success and where many of his pupils now hold very responsible positions in life. While he was teaching school he read law in the office of the late James L. Lenahan, and was admitted to the Luzerne County Bar, cum laude, and gradually acquired a large practice.
Attorney Walter S. Casterlin, aged 48, local real estate man, died suddenly last night at his home, 37 Terrace street, following a few hours illness of heart trouble. Attorney Casterlin had been in poor health for some time.
Deceased was born at Orange. He was a graduate of Mansfield State Normal School and for several years taught school at Nanticoke, being admitted to Luzerne County bar soon afterward. He was a member of the Masons. Surviving him, are his wife and two children, Sterling and Ace; also his mother, Mrs. Mary Casterlin of Orange, and a brother, Frank Casterlin, also of Orange.

It is fitting that we tarry in life’s busy day to show an appreciation of life, age, character and trust in God. A little more than 80 years ago, Mrs. Mary Rosencrans Casterlin was born. She lived on the old homestead near Orange, Pennsylvania, the larger part of these many years. She and her husband, Joseph Casterlin, were privileged to spend many years together, however, January 31, 1913, the call to the other land came to the husband and he passed over. There was born to this family four children, Mrs. Susie C. Drake, of Dorranceton, Pa., a daughter, deceased; Harry Casterlin of Orange, Pa., and Mrs. Herman C. Downing, wife of Rev. Downing, who has been pastor of the Laceyville Baptist Church for a number of years, but is just now entering upon a new work, having just been engaged with the Vincent Baptist Church, Chester Springs Pennsylvania.
Joseph Casterlin, of Orange, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Susie C. Drake, 98 Poplar street, Dorranceton, yesterday after a long illness of heart trouble. He was aged 76 years, 6 months and 8 days and was born in Sussex county, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Casterlin, of Dorranceton, and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Susie C. Drake, of Dorranceton; Mrs. H.C. Downing, of Laceyville; and Harry Casterlin, of Dallas. The funeral will be held on Monday morning at 8 o’clock and after brief services the remains will be removed to the old homestead at Orange, where, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, Rev. E.A. Benson, pastor of the Baptist church, will officiate.

JOHNSON—At the family residence, 511 East Ash., November 30, Stella Walling Johnson, wife of Walter Johnson, mother of Eva and Elva Johnson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse D. Walling. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 4, at 2 P.M., from the conservatory chapel of F.S. Dunning, Inc., 414 East Alder. Friends invited. (Portland Oregonian, December 3, 1919)
The esteem in which she was held was yesterday afternoon attested when friends in large numbers assembled to do honor to the memory of Mrs. W.S. Casterlin. The service, as unostentatious as the life just closed, was conducted at the home on North Main street by Rev. L.O. Knipp of the Christian Church, Plymouth, and his tribute to the character of the deceased found echo in the hearts of the many who knew and loved her. Flowers in great profusion surrounded the casket and nearly filled the parlor and were cared for by Misses Jennie Vaughn, Alena Roiley, Daisie Dailey and Mabel Anderson, while the casket was carried by Stanley W., Torrance A. and James R. McHenry, brothers, and Dr. V.A. McHenry, Frank and Harry Casterlin, relatives. Interment was made in Forty Fort cemetery.

Mrs. Walter Casterlin, wife of attorney Walter Casterlin, of Wilkesbarre [sic] died yesterday afternoon in the Wilkesbarre [sic] City Hospital, following an operation performed on Monday. She was a most estimable young woman, and her untimely death has caused great sorrow in a wide circle of friends. Mrs. Casterlin was a daughter of Hon. James McHenry of Cambra.

At 2:35 o’clock yesterday afternoon, at the City Hospital, occurred the death of Mrs. Casterlin, wife of attorney W.S. Casterlin of 269 North Main street, death being due to shock following an abdominal operation, which was performed on Sunday.
Mrs. Casterlin had been in comparatively good health recently, so that it was a great shock to her family to have her stricken down the latter part of last week and to be informed that the only hope for her recovery lay in a delicate and dangerous operation.
Father of Attorney W.S. Casterlin Made Money as a Farmer
One will was filed yesterday in the office of the register of wills, disposing of a large estate consisting of several thousands of dollars of real estate, while letters of administration were issued in another which was of much smaller value.
According to the will of Asa Casterlin, who died on July 30 at his home at Franklin township, all of the estate, both real and personal, is left to his wife, Mary Casterlin. She is to have the full use of the estate so long as she remains unmarried.
