Mrs. Dora Lawrence, Kin of Garrett Residents, Died

Mrs. Dora Lawrence, 77, of 320 West Fifth Street, Auburn, died Saturday morning at 7:30 o’clock at her home, where she had been bedfast for a month, suffering from an inward goiter. She had been in poor health for several years.

Mrs. Lawrence was born July 20, 1862 in Auburn, the daughter of John D. and Mary Ann VanLear. She was united in marriage to Elbert H. Chittenden on March 26, 1880, and to this union were born six children, five of whom survive. A daughter, Stella R., preceded her mother in death. Mr. Chittenden died March 6, 1920. On May 6, 1928, she and Harry Lawrence were married.

Mrs. Lawrence was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Auburn Church of Christ.

Surviving are the husband, four daughters, Mrs. Maude Rinehold, Mrs. Dorothy Gramling and Mrs. Hilda Campbell of Auburn, and Mrs. Foster Harwood of 710 South Ijams street, Garrett, a son; John A. Chittenden of northeast of Garrett; twelve grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Effie Parks of Muncie; one stepson, Will Lawrence of Detroit, and two brothers, H.M. VanLear of 501 South Randolph street, Garrett, and Lockus VanLear of Concord township.

Brief services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the residence and at 2 o’clock at the Church of Christ, with Daniel Eynon, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, northwest of Garrett.
