Earl Nelson Baldwin was born November 3, 1878, at Morenci, Michigan, a son of Nelson Baldwin and Sarah (Sims) Baldwin.
He attended Fayette Normal College, Fayette, Ohio, and on October 7, 1900, was married to Myrtie Rorick. To them seven children were born. The family moved to Howell from Fayette 31 years ago and, until the past few years, Mr. Baldwin owned and operated a successful business as hardware merchant here until he retired. The local business is now operated by his son, Duane.
Mr. Baldwin served the city of Howell as a council member and he was also a member of the Presbyterian church.
Mr. Baldwin had not been well for the past year but was able to spend the winter in Florida and to be about Howell upon his return this spring. He was taken to the hospital in Ann Arbor only one week before he died on Sunday evening, October 7, 1956, aged 77 years, 11 months and three days.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtie R.; five sons, Ned N. of Tecumseh; Mark R. of Albion, Roscoe W. of Marquette, Duane E. of Howell and Cary A. of Los Angeles, California, and by two daughters, Mrs. Robert G. Field (Pauline) of Detroit and Mrs. C.S. Jacobs (Mary). There are also 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Presbyterian church in Howell, Rev. Walter A. Geske officiating and burial was in the cemetery at Morenci, Michigan.
