Rev. Franklin P. Doty Succumbs at Scranton

Rev. Franklin P. Doty, 81, retired Methodist Episcopal minister who was former pastor of Avoca and Parson Churches, died at his home, 622 Quincy Avenue, Scranton, yesterday morning.

He was born at Wantage, Sussex County, N.J., in 1852. After teaching school he entered the Methodist ministry in 1877 and became a full member of Wyoming Conference two years later. In 1879 he was married to Miss Amelia Harding of Barton, N.Y., who died in 1924.

Besides Avoca and Parsons, Rev. Mr. Doty has been pastor of churches at Sale’s Eddy, Oregon, Harpersville, N.Y.; North Abington, Peckville Taylor, Throop, Bradley Memorial, Embury and West Park Churches, the latter three in Scranton.

Surviving are a daughter, Miss Edith M. Doty; a son, Howard R. Doty; two grandchildren, Franklin C., and Marian B. Doty; also a brother, Asa T. Doty of Spencer, N.Y.

The body will be removed on Thursday morning to 427 Madison avenue, Scranton, where services will be held that afternoon at 2:45 o’clock by Rev. C.M. Olmstead, Oneonta, N.Y., and Rev. F.D. Hartsock, Dallas. Interment will be in Shady Lane, Chinchilla.
