K. Spear Dies At 81

Reading—Kenneth (Pappy) Spear, proprietor of the Reading Hotel and a retired postal worker, died Tuesday at the Hillsdale Community Health Center after a two-week illness.

He had lived at 345 S. Allen Road, Allen, where moved seven years ago after having lived in Reading for many years and in Morenci prior to that time.

He was born in Morenci Feb. 27, 1892, the son of Estel and Martha Baldwin Spear.

He was preceded in death by three wives.  His first wife, Henrietta Roberts, died in 1937; Gladys Tewsley in 1967 and Beatrice Ryan in January 1973.  He was also preceded by one daughter and one brother.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. LeJean (Jane) Marshall of Allen; one son, Kenneth Spear Jr. of Plymouth; two sisters, Mrs. R.H. (Dorothy) Rogers of Albuquerque, N.M. and Mrs. Carroll (Margaret) McLeary of Clearwater, Fla.; one brother, Maurice Spear of Clearwater; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral service will be Friday afternoon at 1 in the St. John Funeral Home, Reading.  Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7 to 9.
