Elbert H. Chittenden

Elbert H. Chittenden was born in Schulyer county, New York, July 7, 1851, and departed this life at Garrett, Indiana, March 6, 1920, aged 68 years, 7 months, and 28 days. He came from New York to Michigan when 12 years of age, and from there to this community in 1893.  He was married to Miss Dora Van Lear in 1880.  To this union were born six children: Mrs. W.A. Rinehold of Kimmell, Ind., Mrs. F.R. Harwood of Garrett, Stella, who preceded her father to the great beyond 21 years ago, John A. at home, Mrs. R.M. Gramling of Auburn and Miss Hilda of Auburn.  Mr. Chittenden was a member of the Masonic order.  There remains to mourn his loss his wife, five children, four grandchildren, and one sister in Seattle, Washington; also the friends and neighbors which he had in the community.
